McBeth Park Trail
How to get there- past Chief Peguis trail off of Main Street. McBeth Park is home to some of Winnipeg's largest and oldest cottonwood trees.
Park by the playground or the McBeth house and the start walking down the trail to the river.
The trail zigzags around and at first there are only small trees. Where are all the big trees we wondered?! Keep going!
You will also pass by two restoration sites for tall grass prairies. For kids, tall grass really is tall- taller than my kid!
Then there's a little bridge and you start seeing the towering cottonwood trees.
These cottonwoods tower over you as you walk along the trail, following the Red River.
The official trail is about 4km long but you can walk to the river and meander around.
Fun facts:
There’s a fantastic brick building there. Called the McBeth House. After almost 200 years in the family, the Scottish family gifted their home and farm to the city of Winnipeg. Built in 1912-13. It’s now a seniors drop-in centre.
McBeth park is restoring the tall grass prairie and saving the monarch butterflies with milkweed!
There is a playground - definitely a fun fact for kids!
